There is so much choice to suit all abilities, from coarse fishing, fly fishing, game fishing or sea fishing. A great location for a fishing holiday or just to relax on the shores at Argyll Chalets and fish in a wonderful location, in peace and quiet with wonderful views all around.
The fishing on Loch Awe is superb and well renowned, it has a
great deal to offer the experienced game, coarse fisherman, recreational angler or complete novice. Loch Awe is 24 miles long and famed for its wild fishing including wild brown trout, rainbow trout, huge pike, perch, eels, roach, and the 'rare' Arctic char. Salmon also pass through Loch Awe. The fish love high quality waters of Loch Awe which offers the perfect natural, feeding grounds for them to thrive which in turn attracts fishermen from all over the world.
Guests staying at Argyll Chalets can fish for free from the shores
alongside the lodges however many prefer to take a boat out. You are welcome to bring your own or hire one locally at Loch Awe Boats at Dalmally.
Fishing Seasons Brown Trout / Rainbow Trout : The brown trout season runs from 15th March to 6th October.
Pike Fishing : The current record for a pike at
Loch Awe stands at 35.5lb. Pike fishing is open all year and can provide some
excellent winter sport.
Fishing permits :
These are available at several locations throughout Central Scotland. Locally
there are several outlets including the Loch Awe Stores in Lochawe, Loch Awe
Boats at Ardbrecknish and also Awe Service Station, Bridge of Awe, Taynuilt.
There will be no charge for children under 12 who are accompanied by a permit-holding adult. Trout and Coarse season runs from 15 March to 6 October, the Pike season is all year round.
Salmon Fishing - River Orchy & River Awe The popular River Orchy which passes through Dalmally. It is one of the
most attractive salmon rivers in the country. The salmon season runs from
February 11th to October 31st. Fly, spin and worm are permitted. Day tickets
are available for salmon fishing on a mile of the River Awe (fly fishing only).
Sea Fishing The
Argyll coastline is extensive with many sea lochs penetrating deep inland,
there are many islands with extensive wildlife and sealife along the stunning
coastline. The main sea fish species include cod, Pollack, mackerel, haddock,
spurdog, conger eel and sea trout. Loch Etive, Loch Fyne and Loch Creran are
all popular locations for the keen sea fisherman.
